This book is a heartfelt tale about allowing yourself to change for the better and to find the courage to defy a world full of restrictions and rules.

The main character, Linus Baker has never allowed himself to dream of a world full of color, love, acceptance and family. He lives in self-doubt, continuously finding himself in the monotony and grey world of the city. As a case worker for magical orphanages, he is asked to evaluate the most extreme cases his career has ever seen. They turn his life upside down, first out of fear, and then with endearing and wonderfully raw moments.

Klune does a beautiful job letting us see inside Linus’ head and heart to see the changes of mindset, confidence and the ability to change your perception of the world. Full of wit, suspense, queerful delight and some of the most memorable characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading about… I can’t recommend this book enough.

The characters are so extraordinarily charming, funny and have the biggest hearts in their own skewed way. Klune gives us a magical story that shows us how everyone, regardless of how different they may seem, deserve to be loved, fostered and shown they have a beautiful future. Such a quiet, yet powerful voice to remember that conformity is not always healthy nor equitable.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll fall in love one page at a time.
